SETUP GUIDE

Install Microsoft 365 on a Mac

Download the official Mac package, complete installation, activate Office, and resolve common permission prompts.

Quick answer

The Mac installer is a signed package downloaded from Microsoft. Your account and license determine which apps and services are available.

Before installation

Confirm your macOS version is supported, install updates, check storage, and identify the licensed Microsoft account. Close Office apps and other installers.

Install on macOS

  1. Download the Mac installer from your Microsoft account.
  2. Open the .pkg file and continue through the installer.
  3. Enter the Mac administrator password when macOS requests it.
  4. Open Word from Applications and sign in to activate.
  5. Run Microsoft AutoUpdate to apply current fixes.

Permission prompts

Grant access only when a feature needs it. File access supports opening documents; microphone and camera access are relevant to calling or dictation features. Permissions can be reviewed later in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

Frequently asked questions
